CHILDREN are a joy but you really have to keep your eye on them if you want them to be safe. Some children can inadvertently start a fire too.

According to the United States Fire Administration, over half of child-playing fires in the home begin in a bedroom.

And over two-thirds of these bedroom fires start because of children playing with matches and lighters which can ignite flammable sheets present in the rooms. Here are a few tips to help you to educate your child on fire safety

  • Educate your children about fire safety. Make sure they know that fire can be dangerous. Teach them to recognize potential hazards like worn-out electrical cords, candles burning unattended and overloaded wall sockets.
  • Teach them to NEVER play with matches and lighters and explain to them why. Visit www.mcgruff.org for an interactive game with McGruff the Crime Dog that will help your kids learn about fire
