Raising your children the right way!
When parents hear the word “underachiever”, they panic. Nobody wants their child to be called an underachiever because they associate the word with words such as “slow”, academically challenged, and even dumb. But what parents should realize that even gifted children and average children can be deemed as “underachievers” when they perform below their potential. This is because while some kids are really academically challenged; most of the time, children just doesn’t care for the effort to achieve high standards. So what can a parent do? Here are some tips:
Let them know your expectations – some parents do not voice out their expectations from their kids, they simply let them be. There are both positive and negative aspects of this because while your child will not be needlessly pressured to excel, he will also not be motivated to do it. Try to set a realistic goal with your child and let him know of it.
Focus on his interest – it is a good idea to give your child as many opportunities as possible. Be careful not to focus on the wrong activities though because forcing him to take acting lessons when his real interest is in athletics will prove to be of no value to him later on.
Being a parent can be challenging, so on my blog TodaysParent I hope that I will be able to provide some parenting insights from one parent to another.
