Raising your children the right way!
When a divorced person decides to join his or her life with another person, a new family is created. Just like any normal family, “step” families have their own challenges to face. Whether it is children who are angered by the thought of their parent marrying another or the jealousy of the new spouse when you talk to your ex about your children, misconceptions about step families abound.
But it would not be right to expect that children will immediately take to your new partner; it will take time and effort on your part to make your children accept their new parent. Earning your children’s trust is not as hard as it seems though; just remember to respect their feelings and communicate with them openly. You will discover that the thing they actually want most is for you to be happy, they are most likely concerned that you will not be treated as well as you deserve by your new partner.
In addition, most children are hurt by the breakup or the divorce. In most cases though, children are not permanently damaged by this event as long as the parents are there to support them. it is also important for you and your partner to be congenial to one another so children will not be forced to take sides.
Being a parent can be challenging, so on my blog TodaysParent I hope that I will be able to provide some parenting insights from one parent to another.
