Raising your children the right way!
Browsing the internet undeniably presents a lot of risks especially for a child. In a previous post, I had written about some specific ways you can help protect your child against abusive individuals online. But since online safety is an incredibly important topic particularly because of the popularity of social networking and chatting, here are other tips you can implement:
1. Take extra steps – you should not take online safety for granted. It would be a good idea to keep the computer where it can be easily seen by other people aside from the child. Put your computer in the family room or in the living room so you can monitor the sites your children go to.
2. Go where your kids frequent – that is, you should go to the websites and networking places that your child usually spends his time. However, you should let your kids know you are there so they will not feel that you are invading on their personal space.
3. Review the friend list – for networking sites, it is recommended for you to limit your child’s online “friends” to people who they actually know so you can be sure of their online safety.
Being a parent can be challenging, so on my blog TodaysParent I hope that I will be able to provide some parenting insights from one parent to another.
