Raising your children the right way!
Communication is always a problem between a parent and a child. “You never listen to me” is often heard by parents complaining about their child’s lack of obedience and the same is true for children because they feel that their parents lack listening skills. It is important to realize that listening to the other person is essential to enhance his self-worth, confidence, and good relationship with other people.
Parents should not only communicate to their child to talk about what they want them to do, they should also listen to them. This means that no judgment should be made when children are telling their parents about their day, their feelings, and basically what they are going through in life. By listening to their children, the parent is also teaching their children the importance of listening skills and interaction. In this regard, here are two basic communication tips:
Speak in a quiet voice – instead of using a shouting or commanding tone on your child, use a soft tone instead. You will find out that they are more likely to respond to this.
Look into their eyes – looking at the eyes will tell the person you are talking to that you are really listening and paying attention to what he is saying.
Being a parent can be challenging, so on my blog TodaysParent I hope that I will be able to provide some parenting insights from one parent to another.
