In school, some children are more at-risk of bullying compared to others for a variety of reasons including disability, insecurity, appear to be physically weaker, social isolation, cry easily, or if they relate better to adults compared to their peers. School bullying can take on a variety of forms which range from mild to the extreme. But whatever the case, the child being bullied will mentally, socially, and emotionally suffer.

Some signs of bullying include teasing, name-calling, e-mail threats, harassing calls, taunting, racial slurs, the destruction of the child’s belongings, hitting, punching, and other physical attacks. Sexual bullying is also common in school these days so children who are being bullied may also experience unwanted sexual comments, sexual name-calling, sexual rumors, grabbing in a sexual manner, and pulling off their clothes.

Some kids even don’t care where they bully other children so bullying can occur in the classrooms, the hallways, bathrooms, the cafeteria, and the playgrounds. In addition, there is a rising incidence of bullying through the internet as children become familiar with using e-mails and instant messages. Recognizing the signs of bullying is the first step in helping your child but there are a variety of steps that need to follow in order to ensure that your child will experience a happy and non-traumatic childhood.
