Raising your children the right way!
All parents are concerned about their child’s health and this is particularly true if the child is overweight. It is important to realize that all children will gain weight when they are becoming older so it is essential to support this growth with proper nutrition. However, some parents don’t realize until it’s too late that their children are becoming overweight.
Should you be concerned about the weight of your child? Definitely. Extra pounds lead to childhood obesity. It is a serious medical condition that can affect children, adolescent, and even adults. Overweight children usually carry this problem through adulthood so it is important to stop this problem early on. Obesity is present when the weight of the child is above normal for his age and his height.
Some problems associated with childhood obesity include diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. There are genetic as well as hormonal factors that contribute to a child’s weight but this is aggravated by lack of exercise and poor eating habits. Children should consume only the food they need for growth and metabolism; their weight should always be in proportion to their age and their growth. Lifestyle issues should be looked into by the parents so that the child can grow up to be healthy.
Being a parent can be challenging, so on my blog TodaysParent I hope that I will be able to provide some parenting insights from one parent to another.
