Raising your children the right way!
There are various treatments that are available for childhood obesity; the suitable treatment will depend on the child’s age, weight, and medical condition. Usually though, the treatment will need to include changes in his diet and changes in the level of his physical activity. In extreme cases though, the treatment may need to include surgery or medications.
For children who are under the age of 7, the goal of the treatment is to maintain their current weight rather than to lose weight. This is because the child is still growing at this point and he will add inches instead of pounds; this will help cause his BMI to drop to a healthy range. However, if the child is obese, maintaining his current weight would be difficult as he waits to get taller.
Weight loss is usually recommended for children who are already above7 years of age or if a child younger than this has health concerns. Remember that weight loss should be steady and gradual; it should not be sudden because the child may lack the nutrient he needs. You need to realize that the methods for weight loss and weight maintenance for children are basically the same. Diet and exercise should always be a consideration.
