When you have a pet in your household, you certainly want your child and your pet to bond and get alone. But it is important for you to take into consideration that your child is entering a new environment especially if he is a new born. On the other hand, the pet must become accustomed to the child so that he will not be out of control by the time he meets the child. So here are some tips to make their introduction and bonding as seamless as possible:

Gradually introduce them – try to give the pet one of the baby’s blankets so that it can familiarize itself with the baby’s smell. And when you’re holding the baby, try to get closer to your pet. However, don’t leave them alone with each other.

Have a no-pet zone – when your child can get out of the crib, create a “no-pet” area in the house. Don’t let your pet get into the nursery by creating a barrier.

Don’t share toys. It is important to remember that animals are highly territorial creatures. So keep the baby’s items away from your pets. On the other hand, don’t let your child play with the pet’s toys as well because it can lead to confrontations between them.
